StarTimes is the Pay TV offering from NTA Star TV Network – a collaboration between NTA (Nigeria Television Authority) and chinese network StarTimes. The company is set to delve into the smartphone and tablet device with two budget devices reportedly in the pipeline. StarTimes is said to launch the Startimes P40 mobile phone and the Startimes P80 tablet which outlines the company’s plan to make digital television accessible to Nigerians as well as affordable and quality devices.
Both devices – the Startimes P40 mobile phone and the P80 tablet would run on the dated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and features Dual SIM support, asides that they both offer different offerings.
The StarTimes P40 mobile phone is expected to feature a 4-inch Capactive touchscreen, powered by a 1.3GHz Dual-core CPU (unkwown chipset) , 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion (up to 32GB). There is a 3MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The device runs on a 1450mAh battery, runs on Android 4.2 OS and supports Dual SIM functionality.
The StarTimes P80 tablet features a 8-inch XGA touchscreen display, powered by a 1.3GHZ Quad-core CPU (unknown chipset), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable internal storage (up to 32GB vaia microSD card). Others specs of the P80 includes a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dual-SIM support and a 4000mAh battery.
The Startimes P40 has been placed with a price tag of ₦12,000 ($74) and the P80 with a price tag of ₦27,000 ($166). Expect both devices to come with customised apps and services from Startimes.
