Swatch to debut ‘no charging’ smartwatch compatible with Android and Windows Phone

Swiss watch maker, Swatch has announced it would be entering the smartwatch/wearable market with a new offering. CEO Nick Hayek says the yet-to-be-announce smartwatch would be launch in three months time to compete heads on with the Apple Watch which would also be arriving at that time (possibly in terms of launch date but possibly not specs or design).

Swatch says it’s smartwatch would not need to be charged; the company did not give details on this enticing feature but it’s possible users have to switch batteries once the ones in it go dead. The device would be compatible with Windows Phone and Android; it would allow users make payments through NFC.

It comes as a surprising announcement as the company has shunned claims it would enter the market with the CEO Nick Hayek very sceptical about smartwatch potentials. Swatch is in talks with different retailers on its payment system which the company decides not to name.

The smartwatch is expected to debut in April so we should start getting different leaks and teaser before the official launch date.
