One of the bestselling Android app on Google Play has been made available for download freely after shedding its $3.99/£2.99 asking price. The price which has been its source of revenue over the last few years, will see the company only make money from the enhancement made to the SwiftKey Keyboard app – Premium Keyboard Themes.
The app was created to replace Android’s onscreen keyboard, and allow users create their own preferred screen keyboard, whilst the app also learns the ways users type and memorise their personal writing style. New features added to the SwiftKey Keyboard includes a new default theme, improved prediction engine, more accurate gesture typing, new languages added (Belarusian, Mongolian, Tatar, Uzbek, Welsh) bringing the total to 66, added 600 more Emojis
Those who have purchased the full SwiftKey service would be compensated with a Premier pack of 10 themes FOC. The newly introduced SwiftKey theme store will allow developers create their own themes and will offer free & paid products.
SwiftKey keyboard app is one of the bestselling app on Android, spending most it days at number one than any other paid Android apps. SwiftKey has been an Android OS alone app as iOS does not allow third-party developers to develop keyboard enhancements for its devices. With the recent Apple’s WWDC keynote, the cupertino giant has finally released the set of instructions and would allow third-party developers like SwiftKey create keyboard apps for its App store.
By dropping its price for Android OS users, SwiftKey would be looking to impress and entice iOS users as the iOS 8 would soon be officially available and the company would be releasing the iOS version of SwiftKey.
