Swipe Junior is a $90 smartphone with parental control for Kids

India based company, Swipe Telecom has announced a new kiddies smartphone – the Swipe Junior. The device comes with all sorts parental controls and restrictions which makes the smartphone eligible for minors (ages 5 – 15).

Asides the parental control feature, the Swipe Junior has an app management system for allowing and blocking apps, Geo-tracking & Geo-fencing for tracking movement, control for app usage pattern and a pre-defined SOS feature for reaching out to pre-defined contact in cases of emergency. 

It runs the already dated Android 4.4 Kitkat OS, which relatively partly explains the low price tag and has a friendly customised UI for seamless navigation and brings wallpapers, interactive story books, ringtones and several pre-loaded apps for kids usage.

Moving to the specs, the Swipe Junior features a 4.5-inch IPS display, powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 4GB built-in storage, 512MB of RAM, front facing 0.3MP camera and a rear facing 2MP camera.Other spec details includes – single SIM slot, shock proof, water resistant & drop proof, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, micro USB and 3G support.

It is backed by a 1900mAh battery that is estimated to provide up to 8 hours of talk time (2G) and 120 hours of standby time. In terms of pricing, it will be available for Rs 5999 (approx. $90) in Green and Pink colour options.
