Couple of weeks ago, Tecno launched the audio-centric Tecno Boom J8 smartphone – successor to the Boom J7 into the market. Both Boom series devices from Tecno are aimed at audiophiles but the company has gone on to make various changes from the Tecno Boom J7 to the successor.
Considering the fact that lots of people would like to know the similarities and differences between the Boom J8 and Boom J7 before buying. We will be pitching both devices against one another and highlight the key points.
Tecno Boom J8 vs Tecno Boom J7: Specs Comparison
Design, Display and Build
The Tecno Boom J7 sports a 5-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) resolution, measures about 8.93 mm thick and is housed in a plastic body. The J8 goes bigger with a 5.5-inch display with the same resolution, measures around 7.35 mm thick and is dressed is a plastic body with metal trimmings.
Processor and Operating System
The Tecno Boom J8 is powered by the quad-core Mediatek MT6735 processor with Mali-T720 GPU and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Tecno’s custom UI – HiOS on top. The Tecno Boom J7 on its path, is powered by a quad-core Mediatek MT6582 Cortex-A7 processor with ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU and runs the already dated Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.
Memory and Storage
The Boom J8 comes out on top with 2GB of RAM while the Boom J7 has just 1GB of RAM. Both devices have 16GB built-in storage space and a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB for the J7/up to 128GB for the J8).
Camera
For photography, the Boom J8 packs a front facing 5-megapixel snapper and rear facing 13-megapixel camera with LED flash. The J8 also has a front Soft Selfie flash while the J7 has a front facing 2-megapixel camera (no flash) and rear facing 8-megapixel camera with LED flash.
Battery Capacity
The Boom J8 comes with a more beefier 3000mAh battery with fast charging technology compared to the smallish 2020mAh battery on the Boom J7 with no fast charging. The J8 is expected to last up to a day or more of mixed usage but the J7 lasts less than a day.
Verdict
The Tecno Boom J8 has no point to prove as the specs are way above and better than the Boom J7. Performance is tilted to be the same too. The Boom J8 is selling around the region of N40,000 while those satisfied with the Tecno Boom J7 can get it around the price region of N30,000.
The difference is as clear as day and night. There is no need to argue about it. Tecno really did a great job on J8.
