TECNO Spin-Off Phantom As Sub-Brand, Announce Phantom X

TECNO has a borrowed a leaf out of Xiaomi’s playbook (Redmi) to establish its Phantom sub-brand as a high-end midrange one. The first device to make its debut under the company’s new brand – the Phantom X is expected to help the company’s push to be more competitive in global emerging markets such as Nigeria, Kenya and Pakistan.

The new TECNO Phantom X is the realistic successor to the Phantom 9. It packs a 3D Curved 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ screen resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, in-display fingerprint sensor and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The duo front-facing cameras – 48MP + 8MP (105o FOV) sit in the pill-shaped notch on the top-left while the accompanying dual-LED flash is close by in the top bezel.

On the back, the triple camera setup consists of a 50MP (f/1.85) camera with 1/1.3″ sensor, Laser AF and Quad LED flash paired with 8MP ultra-wide camera and 13MP (50mm) portrait camera. The rear setup is capable of shooting 4K videos at 60fps. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio G95 octa-core processor and comes pre-loaded with HiOS 7.6 (based on Android 11). There is a vapor chamber in place to cool down the chipset during intense usage and a 4,700mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

There is no word on pricing yet, however, the device will arrive in a single configuration – 8GB LPDDR4X RAM + 256GB storage. The Tecno Phantom X will be sold directly from the website in Nigeria and Kenya from July 2021 in Monet’s Summer and Starry Night Blue colours.
