UK carrier, EE has announced the EE Rook which is unarguably the cheapest 4G smartphone in the UK. The carrier continues naming it devices after birds (Rook) and as the name suggests supports 4G LTE connectivity.
The EE Rook is available online from the operator, in stores and via telesales. It is priced at £49 Pay as You Go for new EE customers, £39 for existing EE customers and also available to EE corporate customers. There is also a 20% discount available on select EE accessories if you buy the Rook smartphone.
Moving to the specs, the £39/49 priced EE Rook features a 4-inch (854 x 480 pixels) FWVGA display, powered by a 64-bit quad-core Mediatek processor clocked at 1GHz and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box.
Handling tasks on the Rook is a 1GB of RAM and there is 8GB space of internal storage onboard. We all know the internal storage wouldn’t amount to 8GB once the OS and some apps has been installed, as such, there is a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB).
On the rear, the EE Rook has a 5MP camera and a front facing 2MP camera for selfies. The smartphone is backed by a 1500mAh battery which sould provide around 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time.
