Facebook – the company, not the social media platform, has announced plans to rebrand as Meta. The new parent company showcases the company’s new direction, which is to become a social technology company and focus on bringing the ‘metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses’.
As per the official statement released;
Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology.
Meta has become the parent company for Facebook (social network) as well as Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus and more. Starting from Q4 2021, the company will start reporting two sets of financials, one for its Family of Apps and the other for Reality Labs. From December 1, it will also begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the stock ticker MVRS.
Meta will continue to use and share data the same way and maintain the same corporate structure, i.e. Mark Zuckerberg will continue to be at the helm of affairs.
