Swiss smartwatch maker, Swatch has announced its first smartwatch which is aimed at Beach volleyball players. The Swatch Touch Zero One as it is known is not the widely expected smartwatch the company announced which could rival the Apple Watch.
The Swatch Touch Zero One has a curved touchscreen display with built in backlight and a finger type and swipe control method. The watch comes with basic Beach Volleyball functions in mind which means other sports have less business with it.
The Beach Volleyball functions makes it capable of counting steps, counting hits and a mechanism to measure the total number of hits performed. It also recognises different kind of hits during the game whether it is high fives, attack hits, low hits and high hits. The power hit counter also rates the power of a hit from 0 to 100 and is able to rank players into different tanks starting from Amatuer to professional.
It has limited number of sensors and connects to smartphones via NFC to send and receive data. It connects with the Touch Zero One app running on the device – which could see it pairable with iOS and Android.
There is no word on whether it would provide notifications – such as calls, emails, text messages, or even alarms. The lack of notifications would make the Touch Zero One more of a fitness tracker or band than a smartwatch. It is battery powered and has a battery life which is expected to last months thanks to Swatch’s battery technologies.
The Swatch Touch Zero One is available for 149 Swiss Franc ($159).
