Tizen OS and Samsung Z Delayed Yet Again

The eagerly anticipated first smartphone to run on Tizen OS – the Samsung Z slated for Russia this month has been pushed back again. The Samsung Z was expected to debut in Russia this month at Tizen Developers conference, with a global release coming soon afterwards but Samsung has pushed back the release date of both the Tizen OS and the smartphone.

The Tizen OS based Samsung Z was expected to launch in Japan in March but NTT Docomo pulled out of the deal citing the market was not big enough for three operating systems. One of the major setback facing the Samsung Z is the fact that there are minimal apps running on the OS. And if the phone was actually released, the Tizen App store would be scantily launched with applications.

Samsung has however not released an updated date nor availability details of the Samsung Z but the company ensured that the first Tizen OS phone would soon be very much available when users can be offered the fullest portfolio of applications. The Tizen OS currently runs on the Samsung Gear Wearable (s) except the Samsung Gear Live; Nixon camera and smart Tvs.

Despite the setback, theSamsung Z offers a pretty impressive specs with – 4.8 HD super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 2.1MP front facing camera, 2600mAh battery, 2.3GHz Quad-core processor and probably the most important runs on Tizen 2.2.1 OS.

Similar to Android, the Tizen OS is also a linux based operating system owned by Samsung and apparently created reduce the South Korean Company’s reliance on Google’s Android OS. We hope Samsung announces a release date soon but till then Android still rocks.
