Tizen OS based Samsung Z1 smartphone to launch in India this month

The fate which befell the Tizen OS based flagship device, the Samsung Z which was expected to launch in Russia by July is nothing new to those following development with Samsung and Intel co-developed OS. The company cited issues with less applications and time to build the Tizen ecosystem as reason for temporarily halting the device.

Fast forward almost six months, the company is set to launch its first available device under Tizen OS with the Samsung Z1 in India. A press slated has been scheduled for December 10 with the device is expected to make its debut and is expected to be available immediately for purchase for a sub-$100 (INR 6000) price tag.

Moving to the available specs, the Samsung Z1 is a budget device which means it would feature a 4-inch 800×480 pixel display, powered by a 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB internal memory,(up to 32 GB via microSD card support), 3.2 MP rear camera, dual SIM functionality and integrated FM Radio.

The Tizen OS is expected to take on Google’s Android One initiative in the country; there is hope for Tizen OS as the Android One initiative has failed to get enough traction in the company. We are keeping our fingers crossed as the slated launch date for the Samsung Z1 is around the corner.
