Toshiba has unveiled the Silmee W20 and Silmee W21 wearable fitness health trackers; both device were shown off in prototype at an event in Japan last month and are expected to be announced in September, possible at the IFA 2015 Event in Berlin.
Both the Toshiba Silmee W20 and Toshiba Silmee W21 work like normal smartbands which pair with user smartphone (or device) to deliver a range of information but have more features thanks to inbuilt sensors such as the UV Sensor, Heart rate monitor and 3-axis accelerometer.
Equipped with these sensor, they can record and store data’s such as measuring heart rate, physical activities, amount and quality of sleep and more. By pairing with a smartphone or other mobile devices via Bluetooth, recorded and stored information on the tracker can be accessed.
The Toshiba Silmee W21 differs from the Toshiba Silmee W20 because it comes with GPS for detecting user position and has an emergency call option which can be triggered by pressing just one button; to use this feature a number must have been pre-registered.
Last year, the company announced a wearable with biological sensor – the Toshiba Silmee Bar Type. A more affordable version of the wearable is now being released as the Toshiba Silmee Bar Type Lite.
The wearable is not meant to be a pharmaceutical product, rather it would be made available to research institutes, universities as well as enterprises.
The Silmee Bar Type Lite is attached to the chest along and for optimal results a gel pad is advised to be used along. The wearable can function as an electrocardiogram, measure body temperature, pulse wave interval and the amount of body motions and posture.
At 14.6 grams, the Toshiba Silmee Bar Type is IPX5 and IPX7 certified and measures 64mm x 28mm x 9.6mm in dimensions. The results obtained from the wearable can be capture from a smartphone or tablet which can be paired with it via Bluetooth.
