Twitter announces Periscope app for Android

Earlier this week, Twitter announced the standalone Periscope app for Android officially; the live streaming app allows users broadcast videos directly from their smartphones. Periscope was purchased by Twitter back in January when the service was still in the beta phase.

The Periscope app for iOS has been made available since March 2015 and about two months after (May 2015), Android users are set on getting their own version too. The Periscope app for Android is very similar and as expected also differs a little from its iOS counterpart.

Talking about their similarities, both OS versions of the app are able to create both public and private broadcasts, chat with other broadcasters through chats, decidedly choose to allow comments from those they follow only, ability to broadcast privately, and save livestream to watch later. ‎

In terms of their difference – the Periscope for Android app includes Material Design which is very familiar with Android users, resume broadcast at any point it was interrupted either by a phone call or message and a more advanced push notifications, first time broadcast notifications and share notifications.

Periscope is fast, simple and available for free on the Google Play Store but requires devices running Android 4.4 Kitkat OS and above.
