Twitter is the last of the major social media platforms to join the race for the 24-hour disappearing stories feature. Twitter’s Fleets is almost no different from Snap Stories (released 2013), Instagram Stories (released 2016), WhatsApp Stories, YouTube Stories, and Facebook Stories, which lets users share contents that expires after 24 hours. It is available for Twitter for Android and iOS.
Twitter’s Fleets allows just about everyone to join the conversation by sharing their fleeting thoughts. Comparable to Instagram and Snapchat stories, users can see fleeting thoughts from their followers in a stories-like bubble at the top of the timeline. They can either create content from the scratch (text and media) or share a tweet from the timeline or explore page.
Creators can only engage with other user’s fleets with one-tap stories reaction via direct message (no likes and retweets). The company promises the future addition of creating content with live broadcasting, stickers, and more creative tools. According to CNET, Twitter is reportedly testing ‘Clubhouse-style’ audio chatroom feature called Spaces. This feature, which is expected to allow a certain amount of people or groups of people gather online and have live conversations, will go into testing with select individuals later this year.
