Twitter is lifting the 140-character limit in DMs starting next month. The limit has now been raised to 10,000 characters which is almost like unlimited as even the Romeos and Juliets of this world wouldn’t send that long a DM (Direct Message).
The feature is already ready but the company is waiting for developers to make sure their applications and services are complaint with the change. Once this is done, the feature would be rolled out.
The 140-character limit would however still be the default for all tweets however the company is looking at ways to tweak the limit to make more character space available.
In another report but related to Twitter, the company’s CEO, Dick Costolo will leave his position effective as of July 1st. Twitter co-founder and Chairman, and current Square CEO, Jack Dorsey will assume the CEO role but on an interim basis until a suitable replacement is found.
Sources say he finally succumbed to pressure from the Wall Street over mounting concerns over slow user growth which has seen Instagram rack up more user base than Twitter. Costolo will however remain on the company’s board of Directors.
