Back in June, Twitter announced it would be putting an end to the 140-character limit in DMs (Direct Messages). Even though the company announced the feature was slated for July, it finally arrived yesterday (August 13th).

Making the feature known yesterday, Twitter, on its official Blog, revealed that the 140-character DM limit has been lifted and the ‘change is another big step towards making the private side of Twitter even more powerful and fun‘.
This means sending one-on-one conversations in a single Direct Message can only get better. While some source claim the limit is now unlimited, the actual DM character limit is now 10,000 which is more or less impossible to exceed so technically it is unlimited.
Sending DMs over SMS still has the 140-Character Limit and the Public side of twitter (tweets) will continue to be limited to that number of character. To spice things up, Twitter reminds us that tweets can be accompanied with Vines, Videos, photos, emoji and gifs.
The global roll-out for the feature has started and starting with Twitter.com, TweetDeck, Twitter for Mac as well as Android and iOS Twitter apps. Am not surprised Blackberry 10 is not mentioned here but hopefully the feature will make its way whenever there is any upgrade.
