UMI eMax Mini with FHD screen, Snapdragon 615 and Eye Recognition Technology

UMI is about to launch the UMI eMax Mini into the markets with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The device is the first from the Chinese OEM to be powered by a Qualcomm processor, most of the offering of the company is powered by a Mediatek processor as is the norm.

The UMI eMax Mini is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit processor with four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.7GHz and the other four Cortex-A53 at 1.0GHz.  The processor is paired with Adreno 405 GPU and for fast charging there it makes use of Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology.

Moving to the other specs, the device sports a 5-inch IPS-NEO display made by Sharp/JDI with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 441ppi. The device makes use of 2GB of RAM to handle tasks and 16GB native storage space for apps, files & more.

For photography, there is a 13MP camera with LED flash and a front facing 8MP snapper for selfies. Along with standard connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, the UMI eMax Mini supports 4G LTE connectivity (LTE Cat. 4) but no word on if it will be compatible with bands outside China.

Running nothing less than Android Lollipop OS, the UMI eMax Mini is backed by a non-removable 3050mAh battery which should be substantial enough to last two days of mixed usage on a single charge. The device will also have an Eyeprint identification function.

Without blinking twice, the specs are quite similar to the TCL Meme Da 3S (TCL M3G 3S) which also uses the same Eye recognition technology. This is obviously no coincidence since TCL is reportedly trying to acquire or has already acquired UMI or potentially both companies are working together. We are not ruling out any possibility.

In comparisons with the UMI eMax, along with the change in processor, the eMax Mini has a smaller display (5-inch) compared to 5.5-inch; the battery has also reduced from 3780mAh to 3050mAh; the front camera is now 8MP from 5MP and Android Lollipop OS is running now not Kitkat anymore.

Just like the TCL M3G 3S, the UMI eMax Mini is expected to be priced moderately and a sub-$150 price tag is the mark. While this is not a paid post, PandaWill has a video showcasing the eMax Mini in action. One to check out, if I were you.
