UMI has officially announced the UMI Iron Pro, the Pro version of the UMI Iron. The phablet sized device comes with an all iron (no-pun intended) body build and comes with two biometric authentication means – both fingerprint and eye recognition technology.
The UMI Iron Pro has an Iris Scanner feature called Eyeprint ID which recognises the blood vessels in your eyes to recognises you and located on the back, below the main camera is the fingerprint scanner which unlocks the device in less than one seconds (0.32s).
The device features a 5.5-inch LTPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD) and a pixel density of 403ppi. Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali-T720 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB native storage space.
Running Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box, the UMI Iron Pro can also run custom ROMS such as MIUI 6, CyanogenMod, Yun OS, and others thanks to UMI’s Rootjoy tech. It has Dual Hybrid SIM slot which means one of the SIM slots can serve as a microSD card slot when needed.
For photography, there is a 13MP f/2.0 main camera with Sony IMX 214 sensor and dual-LED flash; and a front facing 8MP f/2.2 camera with OmniVision OV8858 sensor and a single LED flash. Connectivity options onboard includes – Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and 4G LTE.
The UMI Iron Pro has a light strip at the bottom front for notifications, a USB Type-C Port for charging which is faster than the microUSB type, headphone amplifier and is backed by a 3100mAh battery. For all the high-end specs, the device is priced at just the equivalent of USD 179.
