Bullit Group, the company behind the CAT (or Caterpillar) rugged smartphone brand has teamed up with Verizon to sell the CAT S50c rugged smartphone in the US. This is the first time a major US carrier will carry a CAT smartphone directly.
Tested and designed for challenging environment, the CAT S50c sports a 4.7-inch HD TFT display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection; the screen can be used wearing gloves, with wet hands and when wet with either rain or snow. It is IP67 certified for both Dust Proof and Waterproof.
The device is Mil Spec 810G certified drop proof up to 3.9ft (1.2m) and also resistant to extreme temperatures, humidity, thermal shocks, salt mist, water and dust. It also has a dedicated Push-to-Talk button for instant communication even in the remote areas (1-on-1 or an entire workforce).
The CAT S50c relies on a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8926-1 processor with 1GB RAM, 8GB built-in storage and boots Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. For more storage, there is a microSD card slot for expansion up to 64GB and for photography, a rear facing 8MP AutoFocus and front facing 2MP cameras.
Connectivity options on the S50c includes – Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS/aGPS/GLONASS, micro USB 2.0 and 4G LTE. It measures 142.2 x 76.2 x 12.47 mm in dimensions, weighs 200 grams in size and is backed by a non-removable 2630mAh Li-ion battery which should last up to 38 days standby time/up to 25 hours talk time.
Staring January 14th, the CAT S50c will be available exclusively on Verizon network for $400 via catphones.com, amazon.com and homedepot.com. It is also available via authorized Verizon Wireless Agents from Ingram Micro.
