ViewSonic has a new rugged phone in town – the ViewSonic A8+ as is it know runs on the aged Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS and also supports GSM et CDMA connectivity options. It is so bulky and as expected comes in a very rugged case which would make it survive different outdoor as well as indoor conditions.
The ViewSonic A8+ Rugged Phone sports a 5.0-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) and has physical buttons. It is powered by a Quad-core Qualcomm snapdragon 200 processor which clocks at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM is on-board to handle the basic task and 16GB space of internal storage is available for your files.
On the rear, there is a 8MP main camera with LED flash, a front facing camera is a possibility and for adding more storage, there should be a microSD card slot. Connectivity options on the device includes – 3G, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
The Viewsonic A8+ measures 18.3 mm in thickness which makes it as bulky as some tablets or laptops, weighs around 270 grams (this is rather too heavy too) and runs the long dated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS.
Some of the bulkiness of the device can be attributed to hefty 3000mAh battery which powers the device, it should last up to 2 days of usage or more. China Telecom will carry the ViewSonic A8+ and the only colour option is said to be Vivid Orange. There is no word on official pricing yet.
