ViewSonic V55 with IRIS Scanner and Recognition technology to Launch at CES 2015

The ViewSonic V55 could be the first smartphone in the market with IRIS Scanner and technology. Smartphone giants like LG and Samsung have both been rumoured to drop smartphones with the biometric feature but so far we haven’t seen anything.

The ViewSonic V55 was expected to be announced at the end of last year (Q4 2014); the device now looks set to drop by Q1 2015 and could even debut at the CES 2015. The device is actually a mid-ranger but the biometric feature makes it stand out.

The phone features a 5.5-inch 1080p Display, powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 which clocks at 1.4GHz with 1GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB space of internal storage. The ViewSonic V55 has a 13MP Sony Sensor on the rear and would support 4G LTE connectivity.

The latest video teaser by the company show the device showing off the Iris scanner and technology feature. The Iris scanner is located at the top-right bezel of the smartphone and is protected by a small sliding compartment. Once the scanner has mapped the Iris only the owner can unlock the device. The Iris scanner scanner has the functionality to secure (lock) files and photos such that when it is handed to anybody other than the owner it is in-accessible.

The last smartphone and tablet from the company was in 2012 with the Viewphone 5E and the ViewPad E100. There is no information on when the smartphone would launch and how much it would cost when it debuts.

How would you like to have a smartphone with an Iris Scanner?
