Chinese device maker, Vivo has announced the World’s First 6GB RAM smartphone – the Vivo Xplay 5. The company’s new flagship has more RAM memory than some of the laptops around today and has some semblance with the existing Galaxy Sx Edge series.
Packed in an aluminium magnesium alloy metal body with ergonomic curves on the back, the Vivo Xplay 5 sports a 5.43-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD Super AMOLED display with curves on the sides just like the Galaxy S7 Edge and a companion software to cater for the Edge functionality.
Under the hood sits the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 6GB of RAM, 128GB UFS 2.0 Storage and custom liquid cooling system to check the issue of over-heating and ensuring normal performance. There is also a less powerful model with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB of RAM.
In the camera segment, the Vivo Xplay 5 has a rear facing 16MP IMX298 camera with a dual-tone LED flash, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) and Electronic Image Stabilization. The front facing camera is a 8MP snapper and the fingerprint scanner sits below the main camera on the back.
Backed by a 3600mAh battery, the 7.59 mm thick Xplay 5 is blessed with a fast charger which utilises the dual-charging chip control channel for faster, safer, and more stable charging. It has Dual SIM slots, supports both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+ connectivity as well as 4G and 4G+ networks.
The Vivo Xplay 5 impresses with enhanced audio performance, CS4398 DAC amplifier and AD8397 on the standard model; & ES9028 DAC and TI’s OPA1612 amplifier on the ultimate model. It measures 153.5 x 76.2 x 7.59 mm in dimensions, weighs 167.8 grams and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
The standard edition with 4GB RAM and SD652 SoC is priced at CNY 3698 ($ 564) and the ultimate edition costs 6GB RAM and SD820 goes for CNY 4288 ($ 654). Both models of the Vivo Xplay 5 are available in Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colour options; pre-orders start on March 8 and 16th respectively.
