Vivo has released a new selfie-focused Y series smartphone in China, called the Vivo Y79. It has most of the specs of the Vivo V7+ but now comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor compared to the Snapdragon 430 on the V7+. In China, the device is priced at CNY 2,498 (US$ 376) and arrives in familiar Champagne Gold, Matte Black and Rose Gold colours.
Pre-installed with FunTouch OS 3.2 (based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS), the Vivo Y79 sports a 5.99-inch (1440 x 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and 84.4-percent screen-to-body ratio. It packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage space (expandable up to 256GB via microSD).
In the camera aspect, the device is equipped with a rear facing 16MP camera with Omnivision OV16880 sensor, Phase Detection AutoDocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. The front selfie camera is a 24MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture, Moonlight Glow, Portrait Mode and Face Beauty.
The Vivo Y79 supports 4G LTE networks and relies on a 3,225mAh battery (non-removable) for power. It measures 155.87 x 75.7 x 7.7 mm, weighs 160 grams and also features a rear fingerprint scanner.
