VPN by Google One, one of the features expected to arrive later this year on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, is now available at no extra cost on these devices. The feature works like any other VPN (Virtual Private Network), it routes all the user’s internet activity through a secured network where it is inaccessible to individuals and corporations. It provides an extra layer of security for online activities by masking the IP address from apps and websites visited.
Google reiterates it protects all traffic coming either apps used, or websites visited by establishing an “encrypted tunnel” between the device and a remote VPN server. To ensure absolute user anonymity (even from Google), measures such as Blind signing, open-source client libraries, little to no logging of IP address/network traffic and third-party audit report of the process.
Alongside the new Pixel devices, VPN by Google One is also available on the Premium membership (2TB and higher) of the Google One plan in 20+ countries/regions including Australia, the U.S and the U.K. it is accessible on mobile (iOS & Android) and laptops (Mac and Windows). Members of the same family group can use up to six devices on the same plan.
