There has been different speculation regarding a Windows Phone based on the flagship HTC One M8. To further fuel these rumours, HTC has sent out press invite for a event slated for August 19 in New York and there are rumours that the company would announce the device at this event.
Different variants of the device has been announced since the device debuted, we already have the plastic version of the One M8 (HTC One E8), a mini version (HTC One Mini 2), a supposedly rumoured prime edition (HTC One M8 Prime) and the recently announced variant for Japan (HTC J Butterfly).
Evleaks started the info leaking by posting pictures of a supposedly HTC One M8 running on Windows Phone OS. The phone is internally codenamed W8, so the device could be called the HTC One W8 or HTC One M8 Windows. The company last released a Windows phone device in 2012 with the HTC 8S and HTC 8X.
The device is expected to feature the same specs as it Android counterpart but running on Windows Phone 8.1 with GRD1 and HTC’s unique duo camera. Asides the updated OS and camera, the HTC One M8 Windows Phone would feature Nokia’s Boomsound speaker, Voice Over LTE (VoLTE), IR Blaster, 4G LTE support, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 5-inch 1080p screen and 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.
An image of the device has been spotted on Verizon Wireless Website with no specific information nor specifications but it further strengthen reports that the device would be available exclusive to Verizon. And according to WP Central, the HTC One M8 Windows phone would cost $610 off contract; around $199 on contract purchase and would be available in the US market by August 21.
We will just have to wait for the all metal HTC One M8 Windows Phone.
