A fortnight ago at the Ignite 2017 event in Orlando, Florida, Microsoft announced new commercial Windows 10 S devices for firstline workers. The new streamlined, secured devices are part of Microsoft’s new goal to ’empower and bring technology to all workers, especially those on the front line’.
The Redmond giant will launch a couple of new Windows 10 S devices for firstline workers through OEM partners: Acer, HP, Fujitsu and Lenovo with availability beginning later this year. The HP Stream 14 Pro ($275 – October 2017), Acer Aspire 1 ($299 – Q4 2017), Acer Swift 1 ($349 – Q4 2017) and Lenovo V330 ($349 – February 2018) are some of the announced devices scheduled for release.
Microsoft’s Windows 10 S is streamlined for security, easy to manage and simple to use. In a future update, organisations will be able to enjoy some of the benefits of Windows 10 Enterprise such as Application Guard, Credential Guard, Cortana and others on Windows 10 S devices with a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Customers will also be able to take advantage of these features with Windows 10 Enterprise in S mode. Other new Windows 10 capabilities such as Windows AutoPilot (available via OEM partners beginning in January 2018)
