Earlier this month, a new activity-tracking watch – the Withings Steel HR, was announced at the annual IFA event in Berlin. The offering is a perfect blend of the traditional watch design with fitness tracking and heart rate monitoring duties whilst not losing its fashion appeal.
Sporting a stainless steel design, analogue dial and durable leather straps, the Withings Steel HR automatically detects intense activities undergone by the user, pushes smartphone notification and syncs collated data with the newly updated Withings Health Mate app for processing via Bluetooth.
Compared to the older activité models, the newly redesigned Steel HR is far more accurate in fitness tracking and the optical heart rate monitor onboard ensures it spots the thin line between activities and workouts. The digital display within the watch face shows the heart rate, activity and notification data.
The watch is water resistant (up to 50 metres) and compatible with Android and iOS smartphones. It also dons a rechargeable battery instead of replaceable watch batteries and promises up to 25 days of usage on a single charge and an additional 20 days more in a very low power mode.
The Withings Steel HR starts at $179.95 for the standard 36mm model (Black or White) and $199.95 for the bigger 40mm model (Black only). Sales is expected to commence around the beginning of October on the official website – withings.com and it could also land in stores later in the month.
