There is an emphasis on increasing privacy for mac users as they will now have more control over their data. Other highlighted features include the addition of group messaging and Memoji customisation in Messages on Mac, newly designed maps with new features for exploring the world. The company also announced the transition away from Intel processors to the company’s own Apple Silicon.

macOS Big Sur brings a lot of technological features which enables the transition to Apple Silicon. Over the transition period, developers will be able to create apps that are compatible with both Intel-based and Apple Silicon-based macs. This common architecture will also make it easier for developers to create the same app for all products across Apple ecosystem.
