Xiaomi has sent out invites for the launch of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones. The new Redmi series mid-range smartphones have been confirmed to be certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent of the US’ FCC) with 18:9 FullScreen displays and will be unveiled on December 7 at a dedicated event in China.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is expected to feature a unibody metal design, 5.7-inch (1440 × 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 FullScreen display with 2.5D curved glass, rear fingerprint sensor and a 3,200mAh battery. It is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core processor and boots Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS with MIUI 9 on top.
On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus is tipped to be backed by a bigger battery (4,000mAh) and powered by a slightly superior processor. For photography, both models should feature a rear facing 12MP camera with LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera.
The Redmi 5 series will be available in different configurations: 2GB RAM + 16GB storage; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. All storage options are expandable up to 128GB via microSD. There is no word on pricing yet, however, it will arrrive in nine (9) colour options: Black, Blue, Gray, Gold, Pink, Red, Rose Gold, Silver and White.
