The Apple of China, Xiaomi is now the Third Largest smartphone maker in the world. According to a new report by IDC, the chinese company only trail the likes of Apple and Samsung and ahead of the likes of LG and Lenovo which had to settle for joint fourth position.
Samsung tops the list with 78.3 million units (23.8%), Apple with 39.9 million shipments (12%), Xiaomi with 17.3 million units (5.3%), Lenovo with 16.9 million units (5.2%) and LG with 16.8 million units (5.1%).
The report further explains that the global smartphone shipment has reached 327.6 million units in the Q3 of 2014 which means there has been a 25.2% increase from the same period last year and more than 8% increase from this year’s Q2.
“Despite rumours of a slowing market, smartphone shipments continue to see record-setting volumes,” IDC’s Ryan Reith said in a statement.
“We’ve finally reached a point where most developed markets are experiencing single-digit growth while emerging markets are still growing at more than 30 percent collectively. In these markets, smartphone price points are making mobile computing possible where we once expected feature phones to remain dominant.”
