After so reported delays, Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi Band 2 activity (sleep, heart rate and fitness) tracker with a more efficient OLED display and bigger battery capacity. Successor to the Mi Band – the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 will go on sale in China on June 7 for a price equivalent to $23 or €20 (CNY 149).
The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 sports a scratch-resistant and anti-fingerprint coated 0.4-inch OLED display which shows the time, steps count and heart rate by a button tap or wrist lift. It is IP67 certified (water resistant) and comes with an optical heart-rate sensor and power efficient ADI accelerometer.
The addition of a display means it dishes out notifications from smartphones and like its predecessor, it can be used to unlock a selection of Android smartphones. A built-in vibration motor gives nudge alerts from time to time to when there is very little or no activity from the user.
The Mi Fit app which is compatible with both Android phones (Android 4.4 and up) and iPhones (iOS 7.0 and up); and gathers information via the smartband has seen an overhaul in the user interface (UI) and more sections have been added. The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 depends on a 70mAh battery for power, the cells should deliver up to 20 days of standby time.
