Xiaomi has taken the wraps off its latest smartphone – the Xiaomi Mi Max 2. The phablet is the sequel to last year’s Mi Max (and Mi Max Prime) and retains the familiar 6.44-inch 1080p Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass but the battery capacity has seen an increase and camera performance has also improved.
The display has an ultra narrow 0.7mm bezel on the side while the body sports a 7.6mm thick full metal unibody design with rounded edges. The device is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked a 2.0GHz with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB built-in storage space.
Pre-installed with MIUI 8 (said to be based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS), the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 comes fitted with a 12MP rear primary camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, 1.25μm pixel size and dual tone LED flash – the same camera on the Mi 6. The front camera is a 5MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide angle lens for selfies.
The smartphone also features dual stereo speakers, Hybrid Dual SIM slots, USB Type-C and IR blaster. It is backed by an ample 5300mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 i.e it goes from 0 – 68% in just One hour). The battery promises up to 57 hours of talk time on a single charge.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 64GB model costs CNY 1699 (US$ 247) while the 128GB version costs CNY 1999 (US$ 292). It will come in a single Golden colour option and sales would begin on June 1st in China.
