Xiaomi has launched the second generation of its virtual reality (VR) headset in China. The Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 succeeds last year’s Mi VR Play, sheds the zipper-like design and features an improved lightweight soft fabric material body and the weight has reduced to 183 grams from 205.8 grams.
Available in China for CNY 99 (US$ 14.3) starting April 19, the Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 requires a smartphones with a screen size range from 4.7-inch to 5.7-inch. It is much more comfortable to wear and comes with a number of invisible cooling holes for better air circulation around the face when in use.
It’s open design ensures proper ventilation for the linked smartphone and the dual anti-reflective aspheric lenses make certain that clarity is at its best. The China-exclusive Xiaomi Mi VR app offers panoramic, 2D and 3D videos. Designwise, from afar, the Mi VR Play 2 resembles the Google Daydream View without the remote control.
