Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi Mi 4 (Xiaomi Mi4) successor – the Mi5 by Xiaomi at some point this year but we are made to believe it is around Early November.
According to the sources, the Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor which uses custom cores, 5.5-inch QHD display, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 16GB or 64GB space of internal storage, no microSD card, a fingerprint scanner, 16MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), 8MP front camera and probably the USB Type-C would be added too. The device is expected to measure around 5.1mm thin and have an aluminium metal body build.
According to the source, Xiaomi wanted to release the device earlier but had to contend with the November due to the fact that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 would be in mass production by then. The company is also said to be looking to tap into Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint identification system which relies on Ultrasound rather than optics. The device wouldn’t be needing a capacitive sensor or any buttons on its body to control it.
The Xiaomi Mi5 could also come with a bigger variant, the Xiaomi Mi5 Plus which would have a 6-inch display, most of the same specs as the Mi5 and is expected to have some additional perks.
Xiaomi is expected to bridge the gap between now and then by announcing the Xiaomi Mi4s, a revised edition of last year’s flagship which would be announced on July 15. It would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, bring a rear facing 13MP camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and other incremental updates.
