The Xiaomi Redmi 3S – a new variant of the Redmi 3 has gone official in China. The 5-inch device still share majority of its specs with the Xiaomi Redmi 3 but the processor has changed and it is now available in two RAM and storage models in Dark grey, Gold and Silver colours.
The metal clad Xiaomi Redmi 3S sports a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display, has a Hybrid Dual SIM slots (Micro + Nano/microSD) with the Second SIM slot acting as a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB and is backed by the same 4100mAh battery on the predecessor.
It is now powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with Adreno 505 GPU for Graphics and either 2GB RAM/16GB storage or 3GB/32GB option. It measures 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5mm in dimensions, weighs 244 grams and boots MIUI 7 based on Android. Connectivity options onboard includes – 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS/GLONASS.
For photography, there is a rear facing 13-megapixel camera with Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) and LED flash; while the front camera is a 5-megapixel snapper for selfies and video chats. The Xiaomi Redmi 3S is available via mi.com for a price tag of CNY 699 ($106 USD) and CNY 899 ($136) for the 2GB and 3GB models respectively. No word on availability outside China.
