The Xiaomi Redmi 5A, the official follow-up to the Redmi 4A, is the latest Redmi series device to debut in China. The budget 4G smartphone, set to arrive some months after the Redmi Note 5A, doesn’t bring significant changes in specs; however it comes pre-loaded with MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat OS.
Housed in a metal-like matte body finish, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display, hybrid Dual SIM slots and depends on a slightly smaller 3,000mAh battery (down to 120mAh). It packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage (expandable up to 128GB).
For photography, it is equipped with a single rear facing 13MP camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and LED Flash alongside a front facing 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity and port options on-board includes: 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, micro USB and GPS + GLONASS.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A measures 140.4 x 70.1 mm x 8.35 mm, weighs 137 grams and also features an IR sensor. It is currently in sale in China for CNY 599 (US$ 90) in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver and Rose Gold colours.
