Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime goes official with MTK Helio X10 SoC, MIUI 7 and starting at $125 price tag

Xiaomi has officially announced the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, an affordable phablet which would undercut competition in China. The device is priced according to internal storage, the 16GB model costs CNY 799 ($125) and the 32GB model costs CNY 999 ($155).

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is powered by an Octa-core Mediatek Helio X10 processor which is the same used on the Meizu MX5 and the HTC One M9+. The Helio X10 SoC on the 16GB model is clocked up to 2GHZ while the 32GB model is clocked up to 2.2GHz.

The device sports a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display, paired with 2GB of RAM, TDD & FDD 4G Dual SIM, and is backed by a removable 3060mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0. It weighs 160 grams, measures 152 x 76 x 8.25mm in dimensions and runs on MIUI 7 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

The IR Blaster allows it to be usable as a remote control for TV and Air Conditioner. On the back, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has a 13MP Samsung made camera with OmniVision Sensor, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), f/2.2 aperture and 5-element lens. 

The front camera is a 5MP snapper with OmniVision sensor for selfies. It is available starting this Friday (August 14) in five colour options – Black, Brown, Light Blue, Pink and White.

PS: The 32GB model of the Redmi Note 2 is known as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime.

The main focus of the event was the global launch of the MIUI 7 which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The new iOS-lookalike UI brings more themes and additional features such as Kids Mode. 

The Xiaomi MIUI 7 update is expected to arrive on the Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2s, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi Redmi and Mi Redmi Note starting August 14 via OTA (Over-the-Air) update.

The company also announced the Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Nano, the device would be available starting August 16th for CNY 79 ($13). The Mi Wi-Fi Nano router has a signal strength up to 150m², and works for almost 30 hours when connected to a Xiaomi 10000mAh Mi Power Bank.
