Xiaomi has unveiled its much anticipated smartphone – the Redmi Note 7 at an event in China. The mid-ranger is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 mobile platform and the first from the company’s new ‘Redmi By Xiaomi’ sub-brand which focuses on e-commerce and cost efficiency.
The Redmi Note 7 has a 6.3-inch Full HD+ 19.5:9 2.5D curved glass display with 1500:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits brightness, 84% NTSC Color Gamut, 1.95 mm thin bezels and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is backed by a large 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0.
The dual rear camera setup includes a primary 48MP (f/1.8) sensor with 0.8μm pixel size, PDAF, and a secondary 5MP camera to capture depth information. Due to Quad-bayer filter, the camera can take photos equivalent to those taken with a 12MP sensor with a larger 1.6μm pixel size.
The smartphone also has a hybrid dual SIM slot, rear fingerprint sensor, 13MP front-facing camera, glass back with gradient design, 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port and Bluetooth 5.0. It also comes with a regular 5V/2A charger but an extra CNY 10 will get a faster (9V/2A) charger.
The Redmi Note 7 is available in Black, Blue and Twilight Gold colours and will go on sale starting January 15. Pricing for the 3GB + 32GB option starts at CNY 999 (USD 148); 4GB + 64GB variant for CNY 1,199 (USD 177) and the highest 6GB + 64GB variant for CNY 1,399 (USD 207).
