Xiaomi has expanded its budget smartphone series in India with the launch of the new Redmi Y phones: the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite. Both models are based on existing Xiaomi smartphones – the Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime edition which were launched in China back in August.
The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite both have a 5.5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, rear facing 13MP AF f/2.2 camera with PDAF, three card slots – Dual Nano SIM + microSD Card, 3,080mah Battery and boots Android Nougat OS with MIUI 8 on top.
The Redmi Y1 also has a rear fingerprint sensor and front facing 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 76.4-degree wide-angle lens while the Redmi Y1 Lite skips the fingerprint sensor and features a front 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is priced at INR 8,999 (US$ 140) and INR 10,999 (US$ 170) for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage options. The Redmi Y1 Lite will for INR 6,999 (US$ 110). All models will be available across Mi Stores and Amaon India starting November 8.
