Few weeks after the launch of the Redmi S2 in China, Xiaomi has launched the camera-centric budget smartphone under a different name in India. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2, as it is now known, features a 16MP (f/2.0) selfie camera with AI beauty mode, AI portrait mode and an LED flash; alongside a dual rear camera setup which consists of a primary 12MP (f/2.2) camera with PDAF and a secondary 5MP camera for capturing depth of field.
The device has the same 5.99-inch (1440 x 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 IPS LCD display with 2.5D curved glass, rear fingerprint sensor, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 14nm processor, 3/4GB RAM, 32/64GBG built-in storage, 3.5mm audio jack, 4G VoLTE connectivity, micro USB 2.0 port, Dual SIM slots, microSD card slot, Face Unlock and a 3,080mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes pre-loaded with MIUI 9 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS) and is expected to get the MIUI 10 update by September. It arrives in two RAM and storage variants: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage for INR 9,999 (USD 147) and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage for INR 11,999 (USD 176). It is already available exclusively from Amazon.in and Mi.com as well as Mi Home Stores.
