Along with the Xiaomi Mi 5X and MI AI smart speaker, the Chinese company also unveiled its long awaited MIUI user ROM based on Android 7.0 Nougat OS – the MIUI 9. As expected, it brings a number of features and improvements over the MIUI 8 such as image search, virual smart assistant and smart app launcher.
For starters, the Xiaomi MIUI 9 promises faster app launch time and the Smart App Launcher provides the user with relevant apps based on the screen’s content. With Smart Assistant, users can search for anything, anywhere on the device while Image Search allows for filtering through photos by keywords.
Dynamic resource allocation feature allocates priority to in-use apps to ensure smooth user experience. With the Split-Screen, the user can use two apps at a time while the new Homescreen editor helps sort application icons and bulk delete them more quickly. Other notable improvements include: cache management, real-time anti-fragmentation and automatic cleaning.
Features such as Image search, Smart assistant and Smart app launcher will at first available in the China ROM and may not be available on the global ROM. MIUI 9 Closed beta begins on July 27th starting with the Mi 6 and Redmi Note 4X (Qualcomm).
Public MIUI 9 China ROM will be available for the Mi 6, Mi 5X, and Redmi Note 4X (Qualcomm) starting August 11th. The Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 5c, Mi Max 2, Mi Max 32GB, Mi Max 64G/128G, Mi 4S, Mi 4c, Mi Note Pro, and Redmi 4X will get theirs on August 25th.
