Google has announced a new feature on its search engine which allows users locate their Android devices by searching for it via Google Search on desktop.
Apparently this new feature would complement the already available Android Device Manager tool. All the user need do is type ‘Find My Phone’ into the box and click on search. A small window will appear showing the a map which details the device’s current location or last known location.
There is also an option to ring the device incase the location shows its is in a nearby place especially if it slips off the chair or tossed under the bed. The Google Find My Phone feature is available on desktop for now, needs the latest Google app and the device has to be connected to the Internet.
For those with more than one Android device, a different device can be chosen from the drop-down menu. Clicking on the maps automatically, the Google Android Device Manager website is launched. Android Device Manager is however still needed to erase or lock the device.
While this is a great tool, until it is available via mobile it is still a less convenient tool. Before one finds a Desktop around, one has seen about 50 mobile (smartphones of all ranges) and tablets alike.
