As promised when it launched YouTube Red, YouTube has launched the standalone YouTube Music app on Android and iOS. The aim is to make music more discoverable on the platform as well as support artists and let fans to discover more music when using YouTube.
The YouTube Music app offers basically the same features as the normal YouTube app and more. The app is free to use (of course ad-supported, lacks some features but YouTube Red changes that); it lets user search through whole YouTube catalogue (music videos, tracks, albums, artists, remixes, covers, concerts, lyric videos) and serves both music and video streaming service.
Users get free 14 days of YouTube Red membership from the onset; subscribing to the service offers – removing all ads on the app, listening to music offline, playing music and videos in the background and saving offline videos. The Home tab on the app recommends tracks , shows recently played tracks and shows the week’s new music.
The app also brings a feature called audio mode which lets users play songs only without showing the video. At the moment, the YouTube Music app and YouTube Red are available only in the US. The app can be downloaded on Google Play Store for Android and on App Store for iOS devices.
