Expected to announce the ZTE Axon 2, ZTE has gone five steps forward by announcing the ZTE Axon 7 flagship in China. The company claims it is honouring the fact that the Axon 7 is the seventh flagship to ship after a couple of Grand and Star variants. There is no word on pricing yet but it will be available starting this week in China and others locations such as US, Canada and select markets in Europe will get it in coming weeks. Available colour options are Ion Gold and Quartz Gray.
The ZTE Axon 7 boasts of specs that places it in the category of the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and LG G5; it sports a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) QHD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and is backed by a 3140mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 which charges the phone full in 100 minutes. It keeps the same design and all metal body as the ZTE Axon and Axon Pro but opts for the premium Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 6GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage space. The premium model also has 6GB of RAM but 128GB built-in storage space.
For photography, there is a rear facing 20MP rear camera with f/1.8 lens, Phase Detection AutoFocus, Optical and Electronic Image stabilisation and a front facing 8MP camera for Selfies. The fingerprint sensor can be found at the rear while the USB Type-C port sits around the base of the phone. For quality audio output, the device has two stereo speakers with amplifier, a headphone jack and Dolby Atmos support.
Finally, the ZTE Axon 7 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and is one of the few devices in town to support ‘Daydream’ – Google’s new platform for Virtual Reality. Those in the US can take advantage of the ZTE Passport Program 2.0 warranty program when buying unlocked from ZTEUSA.com, Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, eBay, and Newegg
