ZTE has announced its next flagship device – the ZTE Grand S3 which happens to be first ever device which would use the Eyeprint ID biometric tech (eye-based biometric security). The company has said it would update all its implement the Eyeprint ID biometric security feature on all its upcoming Grand series of smartphone.

The smartphone however runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS but still manages to pack a very decent specs. It packs a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display, powered by 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB space of expandable internal storage.

Camera-wise, it uses the combination of a 16MP main camera with Dual-LEd flash and a front 8MP snapper for selfies and video chats. There is a microSD card slot on-board for storage expansion; Dolby Sound, Wi-Fi ac and LTE connectivity. It is backed by a 3100mAh battery.

The Eyeprint ID biometric tech makes use of the front 8MP camera and even though it is not as fast as the fingerprint sensor, it happens to be more secure. It might not work in low light condition as the front camera has no LED flash. The eye-based biometric security scans both of the eye; it can be used for authorising online payments, accessing secure content and even unlocking the screen. The Eyeprint ID is developed by EyeVerify.

The ZTE Grand S3 is available already in China for CNY 2999 (€430); but there is no word on Global availability.
