Announced initially at ISPO 2018, the Bulitt Group has relaunched the Land Rover Explore at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona. The high-end tough smartphone is “designed for people who live for adventure and need a phone that can survive whatever it’s put through.
Designed in collaboration with Land Rover, the Explore smartphone takes some subtle design cue from the elegant and versatile Land Rover Discovery. It comes fitted with a factory fitted screen protector to withstand drops up to 1.8 metres and IP68-certified to survive under underwater. It also withstands outdoor elements such as extreme temperatures, humidity, thermal shock and vibration exposure.
The smartphone sports a 5-inch Full HD display with Sun legibility, rear and front 16MP/8MP cameras, 4GB RAM, 64GB built-in storage, 4G LTE (Cat. 6) connectivity and backed by a 4,000mAh battery that delivers up to two days of mixed usage or a full day of intense usage.
For extended battery life, there are various add-on battery packs on offer. The Adventure pack delivers additional 3,600mAh battery along with a Patch GPS antenna, TPU Protective case and Carabiner with canvas strap. The Battery pack has a 4,370mAh batttery on-board.
On the inside, the Land Rover Explore boots Android Nougat OS (upgradeable to Android Oreo) and relies on an octa-core Mediatek Helio X27 processor. The home screen’s customisable Outdoor Dashboard feature offers instant access to weather condition information, sensor data and on-device tools such as SOS light, compass and more.
In terms of pricing, the Land Rover Explore, along with the Adventure Pack will go on sale in April 2018 for a MSRP of €649 / £599.
