Microsoft’s latest effort to rival Google’s Chrome OS, the Windows 11 SE will arrive with the company’s own affordable Surface device – the Surface Laptop SE. Akin to Chromebooks, the laptop will run the new cloud-first OS which made specifically for educational use by K-8 students. The company’s OEM partners are also expected to release Windows 11 SE devices – powered by Intel and AMD, at some point in 2022.
Starting at US$ 249.99, the Microsoft Surface Laptop SE has a 11.6-inch (1366 x 768 pixels) TFT LCD display with 16:9 aspect ratio, 1MP front facing camera with 720p HD resolution and lasts up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. It is powered by either the Intel Celeron N4020 or N4120 processor paired with Intel UHD Graphics 600, 4GB/8GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB/128GB eMMC storage.
The rest of the specs includes 2W stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, 1x USB-C port, 1x USB-A port, 1x Barrel type DC connector, 3.5mm headphone jack, digital microphone and TPM 2.0 chip for enterprise security. The keyboard and trackpad are similar to what the Microsoft Surface Go (US$ 550) offers. Microsoft also confirm that vital components such as the display, battery, keyboard, and motherboard can be easily repaired onsite by IT admins.
